Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has clarified the circumstances surrounding the construction of the Kasoa-Winneba road.
He explained that, the project is entirely funded by the Government of Ghana and did not require parliamentary approval for the purchase of construction equipment.
Addressing the Chiefs and people of the Awutu Traditional Area at this year’s Awubia festival, Dr. Bawumia stated, “I want to make one thing clear. The President asked me to chair the crucial roads project authority. Among the projects our committee identified was the 14km Kasoa-Winneba road. This road is 100 percent funded by the Government of Ghana; it is not an ECOWAS road. I identified that road as one of the critical roads, and we have done it, just as I identified the Adentan-Dodowa road, which we are also completing with full government funding.”
Dr. Bawumia who is also the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said he initiated the idea to purchase equipment to assist every district in constructing roads across the country.
“We bought excavators and other equipment. This was my idea from my committee and had nothing to do with parliament. It didn’t go to parliament for any approval. So, nobody should claim responsibility for all the equipment we have sent to every district in this country.”
He emphasized the government’s commitment to the country’s development, highlighting the introduction of innovative approaches and the move towards a digitalized economy.
“We are very serious about the development of this country. We have come up with new ideas and will bring more… We are in a digitalized economy. We want real development in this country.”
Also, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), also addressed the misinformation regarding the funding of the Kasoa-Winneba road project.
He confirmed that the redesign and expansion of the highway, which includes the construction of flyovers at key junctions such as Sapato, Big Apple in Buduburam, Awutu Breku, and Akoti Junction, are fully funded by the Ghanaian government.
Mr. Nkansah affirmed the government’s dedication to infrastructure development.
“The 8-lane 30km Kasoa-Winneba Highway project is about 45% complete. The project is FULLY funded by the Government of Ghana and not ECOWAS as being peddled by the NDC” he added.
