“We Will Vote Against Him to Teach Him a Lesson” —Hadzide’s Campaign Faces Resistance in Asuogyaman

Former Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Pius Enam Hadzide, recently faced a wave of rejection in the Asuogyaman Constituency after unveiling a bold campaign promise aimed at the community’s youth.

Running as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Hadzide pledged to send young people to the United States to witness the 2026 FIFA World Cup and even help them secure jobs overseas.

However, the residents were not easily swayed by his ambitious offer.

During a campaign rally, Hadzide sought to capture the attention of voters by referencing his past achievements in government, including a controversial incident during his time at the sports ministry.

According to a report by Ghanaweb, the former Deputy Minister highlighted his role in the Australia visa scandal, where individuals were sent to the Commonwealth Games.

“I sent people to Australia. From Ghana to Australia is 18 hours; however, I managed to take people there,” Hadzide declared, reminding his audience of his ability to facilitate travel for Ghanaians.

He suggested that this same capability could be applied to the United States for the upcoming World Cup.

He went on to make a direct appeal to the youth, saying, “The next World Cup will be played in America. The USA is just 7 hours away. Ladies and gentlemen, if you want your children to travel to America to work and bring money home, then you should vote for me. If you are a youth here and you want to travel, vote for me. Me, Pius, I will facilitate your trip,” he assured, aiming to position himself as a candidate with a concrete plan for economic opportunities abroad.

Despite his assurances, many residents were not convinced. In interviews conducted by GHOne TV, several voters expressed their skepticism.

One resident, reflecting on Hadzide’s promises, remarked, “For the past 14 years that I have stayed here, no one has won the seat with lies, so we will vote against him to teach him a lesson.”
