Supreme Court dismisses Ken Kuranchie’s lawsuit against OSP

The Supreme Court has dismissed a suit brought by Daily Searchlight editor-in-chief Kenneth Kwabena Agyei Kuranchie, challenging the constitutionality of the Office of Special Prosecutors (OSP).

Mr Kuranchie sought a Supreme Court ruling declaring the Special Prosecutors Act, 2017 (ACT 957) unconstitutional.

The law provides for the establishment of the OSP to investigate corruption and related offences involving public officials, politically exposed persons, and individuals in the private sector.

This was not Mr Kuranchie’s first claim against the OSP. He had already filed a similar suit last year, which he later withdrew.

However, his latest application was also dismissed by the Supreme Court.

The court stated that the OSP should not be distracted by such litigation but should focus on its duties.
