The Tumu Magistrate’s Court in Sissala East, Upper West Region, has detained four people for the robbery of a mobile money dealer.
The suspects are under police surveillance in Tumu following a series of robberies targeting commuters in Sissala East. Her arrest was the result of an investigation into the robbery of a mobile money dealer.
The suspects, mechanic Sumaila Tembieru, farmer Hamidu Munir, mechanic Sumaila Issahaku and farmer Salifu Abu, were arrested on July 19 after extensive police operations in Tumu linked to robberies in the community. Kong was detained. The mobile money dealer had cash and two mobile phones seized in the case.
At the Tumu Magistrate’s Court, Sissala East Police Commander Kumpe Dieku Gbele reported that on June 17 at about 9:30 pm, three armed men attacked a mobile phone shop, firing firearms and stealing GHC25,000 from the shop owner.
During the attack, the victim, Voguworun Gadafi, who also deals in pesticides, recognised Hamidu Muniru, who had visited the shop earlier that day. A police tip led to the arrest of Munir, who subsequently identified his three co-conspirators.
Presiding Judge Frederick Kaar Tiem ordered the four suspects to be remanded in police custody until their next court date on July 29.
Robberies have been on the rise in the Tumu area, especially since the start of the year. Some Tumu residents shared their thoughts on the arrests with Channel One News.
In a separate case, the Wa District Court, presided over by Judge Maxbrain Titriku sentenced Nurideen Abdul Ganiu, also known as Anelka, to prison for his alleged involvement in a series of murders in Wa State. The defendant is due to appear in court again on August 18.
