Singapore has the most powerful passport in the world; the US drops to 8th place – Passport Index

Singapore can once again boast the world’s most powerful passport.

The latest ranking by London-based immigration consultancy Henley & Partners sees Singapore top the list, beating France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.

For travelers, this development means that a Singaporean passport allows visa-free entry to a record 195 destinations around the world.

A year ago, four European countries—France, Germany, Italy, and Spain—held first place, but they have now risen to second place, tied with Japan.

In addition, seven countries have been ranked third in the Henley Passport Index for the first time.

These are Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, South Korea, and Sweden, whose passport holders can enter 191 countries worldwide without a visa.

The United States, previously considered a passport powerhouse, has fallen to 8th place after a decade of declines in the passport index.

Meanwhile, the UK was in 4th place in the index.

The weakest passport in the world is the Afghanistan passport, which allows visa-free entry to only 26 countries.

The index is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the largest and most accurate database of travel information.

Juerg Steffen, CEO of Henley & Partners, highlighted the importance of the visa-free regime, saying it is a major boost for the travel and tourism industry.

“Being able to travel to different destinations without a visa is no longer just a convenience – it is a powerful economic tool that can stimulate growth, foster international cooperation, and attract foreign investment,” said Juerg Steffen.
