Running Mate: Ashanti NPP Warns Bawumia On Mentioning Names On Campaign Tour

The Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a caution to Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia and his campaign team, advising them to avoid mentioning potential running mates during his tour of the region.

In a letter dated June 10, 2024, and signed by the regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the party acknowledged Dr. Bawumia’s efforts to engage with constituents but emphasized the need for restraint in discussing possible running mates.

The letter specifically advised against mentioning Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, also known as Napo, or any other individual.

Chairman Wontumi stressed the importance of maintaining unity and cohesion within the party as they advance their campaign.

He warned that premature announcements or speculations about the selection of a running mate could cause unnecessary divisions and distractions within the party, potentially undermining their collective goal of winning the upcoming elections.

“Our objective is to ensure unity and cohesion within the party as we move forward in our campaign.

According to the party, premature announcements or speculations regarding the selection of a running mate could lead to unnecessary divisions and distractions within ‘’our ranks and further affect our collective goal of seeing victory in the elections,” the letter stated.

Chairman Wontumi concluded by expressing confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and urging him to focus on the broader objectives of the campaign during his tour of the Ashanti Region.
