Religious, traditional leaders must speak up when governance falters – Goaso Paramount Chief

The Paramount chief of Goaso, Nana Akwasi Bosomprah has emphasised the crucial role of religious and traditional leaders in maintaining good governance.

During an interaction with NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama at the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, on Wednesday, 18 September 2024, Nana Bosomprah stressed that checks and balances are a collective responsibility and should not be influenced by personal relationships.

According to Nana Bosomprah, religious and traditional leaders must speak out when governance goes awry, underscoring the need for these leaders to remain vigilant and vocal in addressing issues related to governance.

In response, the NDC flagbearer pledged to foster better collaboration between traditional leaders and government authorities.

He promised that under the next NDC administration, traditional rulers would have a stronger role in local governance and efforts would be made to improve sanitation practices.

Mr. Mahama also criticised the current administration’s handling of the newly created regions, suggesting that the initiatives were not aimed at genuine development.

In Mr. Mahama’s view, the new regions created under the NPP government have seen no substantial infrastructure development.

He vowed to focus on infrastructure growth in these regions if elected.
