Nana Akomea, a senior political advisor to New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has challenged former President John Mahama to prove his allegations against Bawumia through a public debate.
“Prove to Ghanaians Bawumia is a liar, disrespectful by debating him”. Akomea’s statement comes amidst heightened political tensions as Ghana approaches its next general election. According to Ghanaweb, the NPP advisor’s challenge to Mahama appears to be a response to accusations of dishonesty and disrespect leveled against Bawumia by the opposition.
Meanwhile, Dr. Bawumia has resumed his constituency-focused campaign tour, emphasizing his vision to elevate Ghana to new heights. This campaign strategy seems to be part of the NPP’s efforts to maintain their political momentum and counter opposition narratives.
The political landscape is further complicated by criticisms from other quarters. Nana Ohene Ntow, a leading member of the Movement for Change, has dismissed Mahama’s proposed 24-hour economy policy as an “empty slogan”. Ntow has also critiqued both Bawumia and Mahama’s approaches, suggesting that Ghana needs neither an “upgrade” nor a “reset,” but rather the leadership of independent candidate Alan Kyerematen.
