Okatakyie Afrifa Curses Akufo-Addo And Bawumia Over Alleged Corruption And Galamsey Scandal

In recent days, the issue of illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, has once again taken center stage in Ghana. This controversial practice, which is causing severe environmental damage, has sparked outrage across the nation. One of the most vocal critics is Okatakyie Afrifa, a journalist with Angel TV and a well-known supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a shocking turn of events, Afrifa has publicly condemned his own party’s leaders for their involvement in enabling illegal mining operations that are devastating the country’s lands and water bodies.

Afrifa’s strong outburst on his morning show was prompted by a damning video released by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. The video allegedly shows top NPP officials accepting bribes to facilitate illegal mining activities, known as galamsey. This revelation has exposed the depth of corruption within the party and underscored the destructive impact of these activities on Ghana’s environment.

During his broadcast, Afrifa did not hold back his anger and disappointment. He openly criticized President Nana Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and other high-ranking officials, accusing them of betraying the values of the NPP and tarnishing the party’s reputation. His words were sharp and direct, reflecting the deep frustration felt by many Ghanaians over the government’s handling of the galamsey crisis.

“I won’t sit by and watch while your selfish actions cause others to suffer and ruin the image of the party that my father helped to build. I refuse to be part of this nonsense, and you can’t push me out of the party,” Afrifa declared with intensity.

In an even more dramatic moment, Afrifa went so far as to curse the top NPP figures, including President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Bawumia, party chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi), and the Municipal Chief Executive of Konongo. He invoked the gods of the water bodies being polluted by galamsey, calling on them to bring justice to any leader involved in these illegal activities. This bold move underscored the seriousness of Afrifa’s accusations and his determination to see accountability within his party.

Afrifa’s courageous stance against his own party leaders has sent shockwaves through the political landscape in Ghana. His public condemnation highlights the urgent need for the government to take more decisive action against illegal mining and the corruption that enables it. The journalist’s outspoken criticism serves as a wake-up call to both the government and the public, emphasizing the necessity for stronger regulations and stricter enforcement to safeguard Ghana’s natural resources.
