One of the most vocal critics is Okatakyie Afrifa, a journalist with Angel TV and a well-known supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a shocking turn of events, Afrifa has publicly condemned his own party’s leaders for their involvement in enabling illegal mining operations that are devastating the country’s lands and water bodies.
Afrifa’s strong outburst on his morning show was prompted by a damning video released by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. The video allegedly shows top NPP officials accepting bribes to facilitate illegal mining activities, known as galamsey. During his broadcast, Afrifa did not hold back his anger and disappointment. He openly criticized President Nana Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and other high-ranking officials, accusing them of betraying the values of the NPP and tarnishing the party’s reputation. “I won’t sit by and watch while your selfish actions cause others to suffer and ruin the image of the party that my father helped to build. I refuse to be part of this nonsense, and you can’t push me out of the party,” Afrifa declared with intensity.
