IEA to host presidential debates in October, November

The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) says it will organize presidential debates to provide an avenue for flag bearers to explain their vision and policies to the public.

As part of its 2024 election schedule in the lead-up to the 2024 December polls, the institute has made provisions for two presidential debates, a vice-presidential debate, and Presidential Evening Encounters during which flag bearers will make solo appearances to discuss their programs for the country.

Although the exact dates, times, and venue are yet to be disclosed, the institute has indicated that Accra and Kumasi will host the events in October and November.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) continues to insist that it will not participate in any debate organized by the IEA, a move dating back to 2016 and recently renewed by the Mahama Campaign.

That notwithstanding, the IEA is proceeding with its plans to host the coveted debates.

“The IEA will continue to work tirelessly to provide a neutral platform for the healthy contest of ideas. This is in line with the Institute’s belief that those who wish to govern must subject themselves to probing questions by the electorate to ensure that they understand their concerns and have the capacity to address them,” the press statement read.
