I was sacked from Hearts of Oak because I refused to use juju – Leonard Moffat

Former goalkeeper, Leonard Moffat, has revealed that he was dismissed from his club due to his refusal to engage in the use of ‘juju’ during games.

Moffat, a well-known figure in the local Ghanaian football scene during the 1990s, played for Dawu Youngsters, Great Olympics, and Hearts of Oak.

Moffat’s departure from Hearts of Oak reportedly stemmed from his commitment to his Christian faith and his stand against the use of ‘juju’ by the team.

He shared that he actively discouraged some players from resorting to these rituals as well.

Speaking to Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV, the former Ghanaian international disclosed, “Hearts of Oak parted ways with me because they gave me ‘juju’ and I discarded it in the washing room during a game in Algeria.

“We suffered a 3-1 loss in Algeria, but managed a 2-1 victory in Accra. I was the team captain and goalkeeper during the defeat in Algeria.

“When I was offered the ‘juju’ to distribute among the players, I chose to discard it in the washing room. Upon returning to Accra, Hearts of Oak informed me that they no longer required my services, attributing the defeat to my actions.”
