Hot chase for Navrongo seat as 5 aspirants file to contest NPP primaries

There is a mad rush for the Navrongo Central seat within the New Patriotic Party(NPP) which lost it to the National Democratic Congress(NDC) in 2020.

MyNewsGh.com has confirmed that Five(5)  heavyweights of governing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have successfully filed their nomination forms to contest in the parliamentary primaries of the party later this year.

The Constituency seat is currently occupied by Samson Tangombu Chiragia of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but it is not a safe seat for the NDC. It is one of the few swing seats in the Upper East Region, where the NPP dominates.

The fact that the NPP can easily win the Parliamentary seat may explain why such a relatively high number of aspirants have filed to contest.

The five aspirants who have filed their nomination forms seeking to lead Navrongo Central NPP in the  2024 General Elections are: Alhaji Otito Abdullah Achuliwor, a businessman; Joseph Adongo, current Municipal Chief Executive of the Kassena Nankanna Municipality; Dr. Raymond Kwojori Ayilu an Economist; Perry Atawora Damba, an insurance practitioner; and Gregory Logogwaredane Abasang, a businessman.

Conspicuously missing is the immediate past parliamentary candidate of the Constituency and former Upper East Regional Minister Tangoba Abayage. It is unclear if she is still interested in the seat.

After the NPP parliamentary primaries, the winner will face off with the NDC’s candidate Simon Akibange Aworigo, who managed to beat the current MP in the NDC’s parliamentary primaries earlier this year.
