Samuel Atta Akyea, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa South, has invoked the anger of members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following a comment he made against the flagbearer of the party.
The NPP MP while addressing party supporters in his constituency mentioned that Ghanaians are blessed to have an incoming president in Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia who does not drink alcohol.
Atta AKyea touted the enormous credentials of the NPP de facto leader, urging voters to massively cast their ballot in his favor on December 7.
“Ghana is blessed to have an economist who is calm and knowledgeable and a wise man who does not drink alcohol.
God has blessed us. Ghana is about to get a president with wisdom. A president who is wise enough and does not drink alcohol,” he said.
His statement has triggered massive reactions from Ghanaians. The opposition NDC has taken an exception to the comment and called on the Abuakwa South MP to immediately withdraw and apologize accordingly.
The concern of the NDC was contained in a press statement signed by Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the Chief Scribe of the party. The statement emphatically stated that John Dramani Mahama does not drink alcohol.
The statement further touted the remarkable successes of the Former President in his life as a public servant, insisting that he has lived a life worthy of emulation.
The NDC has indicated to explore available options if Honourable Samuel Atta Akyea refuses to retract and apologize.
“For the record, H.E. John Dramani Mahama is not a drunkard. He is a distinguished statesman whose commitment to the well-being and progress of Ghana is unquestionable. His track record in public service and his enduring leadership qualities speak for themselves,” Kwetey stated.
Meanwhile, Samuel Atta Akyea is yet to officially respond to the strong demand from the NDC.
