Henry Quartey demands police ensure cleanliness of new housing complex

The Minister of Interior, Henry Quartey, has warned police officers not to move their indiscipline from the barracks to new housing developments being handed over by the government.

He stressed that government will not tolerate the indiscipline that is common in police barracks.

Speaking at the handover ceremony at the Accra depot on Tuesday, Quartey issued a stern public warning to police officers saying they have a duty to maintain their premises at all times.

“When you go into police barracks, you often see refrigerators, freezers, bicycles, and all sorts of things hanging around the buildings,” Quartey said.

He directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure that these new buildings do not suffer the same fate.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday commissioned the construction of 320 housing units for Ghana Police Service personnel at the Police College, Tesano, Accra.

The units, which are part of the third phase of the Security Services Housing Project, include 112 two-bedroom and 208 three-bedroom units.

Other facilities include a police assembly hall, a social centre, two multi-purpose playgrounds, and a kindergarten.

The project is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of police officers and their families and demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting the security service.
