The Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, disclosed that the government has disbursed about 1.5 billion Ghana cedis to support 1,488,575 students between January and June 2024 under the Free SHS Programme.

He said a total of over GH¢9.9 billion has been spent on the Free Senior High School Programme to date since its launch in 2017.

According to him, a total of 5.7 million youths have benefited from the initiative, many of whom may not have had the opportunity.

The Karaga MP, who presented the Mid-Year Budget Policy Report in Parliament on Tuesday, July 23, said that, as a complement to these initiatives, the government is providing facilities to impart employable skills to youths under TVET.
In 2023–2024, 168,000 students are expected to be enrolled.

He added that ensuring quality education at all levels was the government’s top priority.

“Moreover, we are building 10 STEM schools and 10 STEM centres across the country and distributing 900,000 tablets to secondary school students. The focus has been on quality education. Students’ performance in the 2023 WASSCE is also the best since 2015.”
