Former Black Stars defender Jerry Akaminko overrules retirement despite being inactive for a while

Former Black Stars defender Jerry Akaminko has overruled retirement despite being inactive in the game for a while.

Akaminko has not being active since leaving Indonesian outfit Persik Kediri in 2020.

In an interview with Angle FM’s Saddick Adams, Akaminko disclosed he is on a semi-retirement as he embark on a different thing.

“I have not retired 100 percent from football, it’s rather a semi-retirement. I have been embarking on a lot of things that has prevented me from training. I have not stopped playing and can’t leave the game at the moment but ‘m just not active”

The 35-year-old defender has capped 10 times for the Black Stars since making his debut back in 2012.

He featured for Heart of Lions in the Ghana Premier League before departing for greener pastures, where he spent most of his playing career in Turkey.

He had spells with Orduspor, Manisaspor, Eskişehirspor and İstanbulspor in Turkey before he departed to Indonesia in 2020.

Jeremiah Akaminko was a crucial part of Ghana’s squad that successfully secured qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Regrettably, a few days before the tournament, he suffered an injury that led to his exclusion from the final squad.
