The families of two young men, Tordia Munkaila and Banonmia Fuseini, who were shot and killed during a robbery attack on a mobile money vendor at Wallembelle in the Sissala East municipality of the Upper West Region, are urging the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
In an interview with Channel One News, the families expressed their frustration and appealed to the police to apprehend the killers and bring them to justice.
The robbery attack occurred on August 17, at around 7:00 pm, when unknown gunmen, numbering about four, ransacked the mobile money shop and made away with thousands of Ghana cedis.
Two of the attackers were unable to escape when their motorbike failed to start, prompting Tordia Munkaila to chase after them.
Unfortunately, he was met with gunshots that killed him and another person, Binorwuo Fuseini, instantly.
The incident has left the Wallembelle community in mourning. The mother of the late Munkaila is struggling to come to terms with the loss of her son, who was the breadwinner of the family.
Personnel at the nearby Wallembelle police station declined to comment on the matter when contacted by Channel One News.
The Assemblyman for the Wallembelle electoral area, Dimah Batong Jonas, lamented the inadequate numerical strength of the police station, which is manned by only three officers, and appealed to the Inspector-General of Police to deploy more personnel to augment the force.
This incident brings the total number of armed attacks on mobile money vendors in the Sissala East municipality to nine within the last two months.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Sissala East, Yakubu Batong, expressed concern over the issue and appealed to residents to remain calm, assuring them that the security forces are committed to ensuring peace in the municipality.
