Bawumia’s promise to cut govt expenditure by 3% questionable – Arthur Kennedy

Dr. Arthur Kennedy, a US-based medical practitioner and former presidential candidate aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed scepticism about the flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s promise to slash the government’s expenditure by 3 percent if elected.

At the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, Dr Bawumia vowed to reduce government spending to stimulate business growth and accelerate job creation.

However, speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue, Dr Kennedy questioned the credibility and feasibility of this promise, given Dr Bawumia’s current position as Vice President.

Dr. Kennedy underscored the need for consistency in leadership, saying, “It’s an interesting point. It poses the question of where he has been the last seven years. I think we need to judge people based on how they have conducted themselves in the past.”

“It’s not as if every election, you wipe the slate clean. Somebody who’s already in power, who can do certain things and he’s telling you he’s going to do things that reasonably he would be able to do now, and he says give me power, in the next election I’ll do it wisely, the obvious question is why aren’t you doing it now.”
