Some supporters of Kennedy Agyapong have called for an immediate apology and compensation from the ruling party over an act they describe as evil against a business mogul who was part of Kennedy Agyapong’s camp during the NPP presidential race.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Nana Opoku-Agyemang, the patron for all Kennedy Agyapong groups across Ghana and the entire world, said that although they were committed to supporting Kennedy Agyapong, his current decision to join Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign trail does not influence them to join the flagbearer’s campaign.
According to him, all the supporters of the Assin Central MP remain loyal to him alone and wish he would become a presidential candidate, but his current decision to join Dr. Bawumia’s campaign will not force them to also join the NPP until the needful is done.
“What we are saying is simple. We will forever remain loyal to Mr. Kennedy Agyapong and we look forward to when he becomes the presidential candidate so that we can vote massively for him. Now, his decision to join Dr. Bawumia is his own wish, and that does not compel us to join anyone. We can’t force our members to join Dr. Bawumia’s camp because Kennedy has joined.”
“We are still NPP and loyal members of Kennedy Agyapong, but we give everyone the will to choose whoever they want as president. We can’t force anyone, and we entreat our members to remain focused as members of Kennedy Agyapong’s team,” he said.
He, however, revealed that they will only decide to join Bawumia’s camp when the needful is done.
The needful, he said, is that they need an apology and huge compensation for the business mogul, George Oti Bonsu, a member of Kennedy Agyapong’s team, who had his building intentionally demolished at Adjiringanor in Accra.
According to the group, the business mogul had his building demolished by a brother-in-law of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, all in the name of political sabotage.
“For now, we are not supporting or forcing any of our members to support anyone, apart from being loyal to Kennedy Agyapong. You can’t intentionally demolish someone’s building because he was supporting Kennedy Agyapong and then invite the same supporters to fully join your camp. Bawumia’s camp must render an apology to Mr. Oti Boateng and pay huge compensation to him before we may consider joining their team,” he said.
He further identified Abu Ramadan, a brother of Samira Bawumia, as the one who demolished Mr. Oti Boateng’s building.
Backing their claims that the act was politically motivated, they said that before Dr. Bawumia’s in-law’s act against the businessman, former President John Agyekum Kufuor urged Mr. Ramadan to stop demolishing the building and settle the issue amicably, but he did not heed his counsel.
“We all know Mr. Oti Boateng as an NPP financier who has done a lot for the party. He has supported various constituencies in terms of finances. He only became an enemy to Dr. Bawumia and his camp when he decided to join Kennedy Agyapong to contest against Dr. Bawumia and others.”
“We are not hypocrites. You can’t collapse someone’s finances and then call us for unity; we can’t do that. Our members across the world remain focused on being loyal to Kennedy Agyapong alone. We can’t join any camps. We may consider joining Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s camp only when we see that Mr. Oti Boateng has received huge compensation and an apology,” the patron said.
