On Thursday, July 25, 2024, the edition of UTV’s morning show had the unfortunate honour of being the platform where Kwaku Boahen and Abronye exhibited their dexterity in using foul language while speaking about national issues.
It all started when Kwaku Boahen, in his commentary on the topic, used a Twi word deemed to be denigrating of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Boahen, who expressed support for the decision by the Minority caucus, stated that Bawumia has always been interested in issues around the budget, as he was always present in Parliament whenever the former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, came to present the budget.
“The NDC is focused on the elections, and I want to commend the Minority MPs who have challenged Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to come to Parliament and participate in the debate on the Mid-Year Budget Review since he so much craves for one. After all, when he was the Minister of Finance, he followed Ken Ofori-Atta to the budget presentation every year,” he said.
The twit terminology used by Kwaku Boahen to make his point did not go down well with the host, who instructed him to retract his statement and apologise to the Vice President.
While the discussion between Kwaku Boahen and the host was ongoing, Abronye, another panellist on the show, intervened and described Kwaku Boahen as an “addict and semi-illiterate”.
“You are a drug addict. Such a junkie should not make such statements against the Vice President. He should step aside and apologise for making such statements against the vice president, because you cannot say that about a former president. ” Don’t let the junkie hurt anyone. You are half illiterate,” Abronye said.
Kwaku Boahen successfully resisted arguing with Abronye at first, but then ran into a gutter and fired at Bono Regional Chairman of the Nuclear Power Plant.
“I am civilized and well-groomed, so I will not answer. There is a saying that goes, ‘If a mentally handicapped person comes to get a towel while you are bathing, you should not chase them naked,’ so I will not use the same words. “You didn’t even pass your exams. Do you even have an SHS certificate?” he asked.
However, the mood calmed after repeated interventions by the show’s host.
