Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated that his party is not obligated to address accusations by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the Electoral Commission (EC) is attempting to manipulate the voter register to favor the NPP in the December 7 polls.
In an interview on NEAT FM’s morning show, “Ghana Montie,” Nana Boakye dismissed the NDC’s claims. He emphasized that it is the EC’s duty to clarify and address any alleged irregularities, not the NPP’s.
“It’s not by force for the NPP to speak against illegal transfers in the register. Let the EC work,” he asserted.
Nana Boakye’s comments are in reaction to the NDC’s recent announcement of plans to stage a nationwide protest on September 17, 2024, if the Electoral Commission does not promptly resolve issues related to what the NDC describes as “discrepancies” in the voter register ahead of the elections.
The NDC’s concerns were highlighted by its National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who spoke to the media after submitting the presidential nomination forms of the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, on Monday, September 9, 2024.
Asiedu Nketia accused the EC of failing to address “several discrepancies” in the voter register, raising fears of potential vote manipulation.
Nana Boakye reiterated that while the NDC is free to express its concerns, it is the EC’s responsibility to handle the electoral process and address any issues of voter registration, not the mandate of the NPP.
