The Ejura Divisional Council, led by Ejurahene Barimah Osei Hwedie II, has initiated moves to take over the management of the Ejura Market Square from the Ejura-Sekyeredumasi Municipal Assembly.

This decision comes after a recent fire outbreak at the market, which destroyed several wares valued at thousands of cedis.
According to the traditional council, the takeover is necessary to ensure accurate accounting of revenues generated by the market and to improve its management.
The council claims that the current management by the Municipal Assembly has been inadequate, leading to unscrupulous individuals hijacking the market and swindling the government of revenue.
The Ejura Market Square is one of the largest trading spaces in the Ashanti Region, and its proper management is crucial for the economic development of the area.
The traditional council has vowed to petition the Ashanti Regional Minister and the Ministry of Local Government to officially hand over the management of the market to them.
Ejurahene Barimah Osei Hwedie II during a meeting with stakeholders on Friday September 6,2024 assured that all revenues due to the government will be remitted as stipulated by law.
He emphasized that the takeover is aimed at sanitizing the market and ensuring that the government receives the needed revenue to develop the area.
The Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Dr. Kingsley Osei, who attended the meeting, expressed readiness to collaborate with the traditional council for the effective management of the market.
He noted that the Assembly, together with the chiefs, will work towards ensuring the market’s proper management.
The move by the Ejura Traditional Council is seen as a positive step towards improving the economic fortunes of the area and ensuring that the market is managed in a transparent and accountable manner.
