Prof. Opoku-Agyemang accuses NPP of copying Women’s Development Bank policy

Running mate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has criticised the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for allegedly copying the NDC’s pledge to establish a Women’s Development Bank.

The NPP, during the launch of its 2024 manifesto, announced plans to create a Women’s Trade Empowerment Fund to support women-owned businesses if they win the December 7 polls.

Speaking to traders at Mallam Market as part of her visit to various market centres in Accra, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang challenged the NPP’s commitment to this policy, questioning why they hadn’t already implemented such an initiative while in office.

She highlighted that the NDC was the first to propose the Women’s Development Bank and urged voters to stay vigilant and informed as they head to the polls.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasised that the upcoming election should focus on the state of the economy and which candidate is best equipped to drive progress and development in the country.

“Be wary of those in the NPP who claim they plan to initiate a fund. We were the ones who introduced the initiative in the first place. If they truly intend to follow through, why haven’t they done so yet? No one is preventing them from taking action.

“We pioneered the Women’s Development Bank initiative. Let’s be vigilant and make informed decisions at the polls.”
