Mercy Araba Ahema Quarshie, sister of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, has expressed her disapproval of the actions of Koku Anyidoho, former Deputy Secretary-General of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), regarding the former President’s grave.
On Wednesday, chaos ensued at Asomdwee Park when Mr. Anyidoho overstayed his scheduled time, delaying the second memorial service for Atta Mills’ relatives and NDC members.
The family had earlier accused Mr. Anyidoho of bringing people pretending to be the late President’s family to the wreath-laying ceremony.
At the 12th anniversary ceremony, Ms. Quarshie criticised Mr. Anyidoho for defacing the grave of Professor Atta Mills without the permission of the family.
She stressed that Anyidoho is not free from responsibility and will face consequences.
“The people with Koku Anyidoho pretending to be the real relatives of Atta Mills. It is never true. We don’t know them from anywhere, and they were here. He preached to them and said the rest of us are paternal brothers and sisters, and they are the real family of Atta Mills.
“It was very unpleasant to see an 80-year-old woman pouring libation and slapping her thighs while saying that she gave birth to Atta Mills.
“I want to make it very clear to everyone that Koku Anyidoho has taken the wrong path by defacing our brother’s grave without our knowledge. This is completely unacceptable, and we will now take action against him as it is taboo in our family to do such things.”
