Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on National Democratic Congress (NDC) member John Dramani Mahama to challenge Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 National Assembly seat. Dr. Bawumia had challenged Mr. Mahama to a debate ahead of the December elections, but the Mahama 2024 campaign team rejected the offer, claiming that there was nothing left to discuss on the economy and therefore no debate was necessary to get Mr. Mahama’s message across. Addressing journalists in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin stressed that Mr. John Mahama must accept the offer.
“I urge Mahama to accept Dr. Bawumia for debate. We do not want a policy of insults, shaming, and insinuations. If he is determined to come back and show Ghanaians that he is a changed man, I would invite him to stand shoulder to shoulder with Dr. Bawumia to discuss the issue.
“Dr. Bawumia is ready to put his cards on the table. If he says we as a government are not delivering as per the requirements, he can only reveal that in the debate,” the majority leader said.
