Ghana defender, Harrison Afful has revealed how he managed to get Lionel Messi to exchange jerseys with him in the Major League Soccer match between Inter Miami and Charlotte FC.
The former Black Stars man had the headache of playing against the Argentine great and had to mark him as well.
In a game where Inter Miami cruised to a big 4-0 win, Harrison Afful was consoled when he went home with the jersey of one of football’s greatest players.
Opening up on how he got Messi to give him his jersey, the veteran full-back said he asked for it during the match.
“I remember before the match started, Messi gave me a wink, and I winked back at him. I think as the game progressed, we somehow got attuned to each other’s presence, given that I was playing as a left-back and my responsibility included marking him,” Harrison Afful said as quoted by Ghanansoccernet.
The Ghana defender continued, “At some point during the match, I approached him for his jersey, and he agreed. After half-time, just before the second half began, we exchanged more winks, something that players often do. So, after the game, I approached him, and he kept his word.”
