Genk is the ideal next step for a young player like me – Christopher Bonsu Baah

This summer, Genk paid 5.2 million euros for Bonsu Baah at Sarpsborg. A sum that, with bonuses, may increase to approximately $7 million.

A sizable fee for a player who has only been playing in Europe since March, when he switched from the Ghanaian Shooting Stars to the Norwegian side.

Genk’s head of football Dimitri de Condé saw his potential and quickly sent an official bid beating Premier League side Brighton to secure the youngster’s signature.

Bonsu confirmed in an interview that a lot of teams were interested in him.

“Yes, it is true that there were a few teams chasing me. But you know, Genk is the ideal next step for a young player like me,” he said.

“Here they give talents the chance and you get the time to grow.

“Moreover, Joseph (Paintsil) was here. He has become like a big brother,” he ended.

“Big brother” Joseph Paintsil also praised Bonsu’s abilities.

“He’s my buddy, hey. We come from the same country, speak the same language. A brother needs to help a brother . I tell you: Bonsu has so much quality. It’s a player you come to the stadium for,” Paintsil said

“You just have to let him do it. Let him flow. When he feels free, he always brings something.

“You saw that against Olympiakos and again today. It’s nice to see him enjoying himself,” he concluded.
