The Ghana Football Association (GFA) are considering relocating Black Stars game against Angola from the Baba Yara Stadium.
Ghana will host the Palancas Negras in their opener of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on September 6 later this year in Kumasi.
However, gathered for a crusade led by William Kumuyi, General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry.
The decision to mount a stage, mount canopies, and set up hundreds of seats directly on the pitch has left the playing field in a bad state.
The Baba Yara Stadium is currently the country’s only approved venue for international matches.
And with the Black Stars set to host Angola in five weeks’, the country’s football governing body is considering relocating the fixture according to multiple media reports with the fear that it might meet the CAF requirement.
Meanwhile, the bad state of the stadium and the pitch has left several football fans expressing their frustrations and Samuel Anim Addo, who previously served as an Executive Council member of the GFA, has also added his voice.
“Do we want to play our home matches in another country because our stadiums are unfit for international matches due to the authorities’ negligence?” he told the Graphic Sports.
“We invest heavily in building stadiums, but we are not protecting them for sports. We love the game, but we don’t want to protect it.”
He added: “It’s a big disappointment,” said Mr Addo, a former member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council.
“This [protection of the pitches] has been an issue for discussion for a long time, but the National Sports Authority appears not ready to do the right thing to preserve the pitches. As a country, we must begin to sanction duty bearers to serve as a deterrent.”
The Black Stars are aiming to secure a ticket for the AFCON tournament that will be hosted in Morocco.
