131,005 security and media workers take part in special elections – EC

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensah, announced that a total of 131,005 security and media personnel are on the list of special voters.

According to the EC chair, the commission has instructed the heads of security agencies, including the Ghana Armed Forces, Police, Customs, Immigration, Prisons, and the Ghana Journalists Association, to explain how they can apply. The special election was held to ensure that they understood exactly how the process works.

Briefing Parliament on the Electoral Commission’s preparations for the election so far, Ms Jean Mensah said the measure is aimed at avoiding the chaos that has characterized the special elections ahead of the 2020 elections.

“We are confident that the special election scheduled for December 2, 2024, will be conducted smoothly and without incident.”

She said the list of special voters will be published on the website next week.

“Mr Speaker, I would like to inform you that the list of special electors will be uploaded on the website next week. We have also written to security authorities and the media, requesting them to provide us with USB sticks on which the registers can be stored so that our members can view the list and be alerted to any errors or issues related to the registers.”
